Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure which treats spider veins and small varicose veins.  Target veins are injected with a solution (such as hypertonic saline) which causes them to immediately shrink and then to disappear over a period of weeks.  It can be accomplished in a single sitting.  The sclerosing agent also closes the feeder veins from which the spider veins form.  This procedure is 80% - 90% effective.  Patients will need to wear compression stockings for 48 hours after treatment.
